Senior Buyer, Crawley, £45k-£50k base

My client is a market leader in the pharma sector and they are looking for a senior buyer to join their team

The key responsibilities of the role are to contribute to sourcing decisions within a Global Category Management matrix organisation, and to manage Direct Material spend, quality, delivery and TCO across a number of commodities in line with Category Management led initiatives, and local tactical requirements.


oThe performance of the successful individual is defined and measured by goals and behaviours which cover cost reduction/ delivery/ lead-time/ quality and payment terms improvements
oLead teams to select and implement suppliers as necessary according to the sourcing process
oNegotiate best practice initial terms with suppliers
oMonitor supplier's performance (cost, quality, delivery)
oContinously develop suppliers to improve their service
oImplement the Purchasing tactics plan as directed
oManage all assigned tasks, escalating areas of concern
oSupport and promote good teamwork in the department and act in line with their Values
oParticipate in the Product Creation Process to ensure early supplier involvement and meet cost targets
oMaintain all system parameters for suppliers and parts as per procedures
oManage engineering changes with suppliers
oMaintain an accurate order profile with suppliers

Additional responsibilities cover benchmarking activities in: Low Cost Country Sourcing, Direct Material spend, Supplier Tier 2 to Tier 3 leverage and consolidation opportunities, identifying market trends, supply trends.

oBe part of Global Category Management led initiatives and the resulting supplier selections
oBenchmarking activities covering categories/ sites/ products/ suppliers
oConduct analysis on supplier selection and Make v Buy
oIdentify new opportunities for business improvement
oCommodity, product and market analysis Qualifications
oThe successful candidate will have the proven ability to manage a supply base and meet their objectives set by the Head of Procurement
oCommunication and negotiation skills are a key competence, to ensure full stakeholder engagement and the ability to work with people of all levels and different cultures

The key interfaces are: the Procurement Team, Buyer-Planner Team, Logistics Team, Spares Team, Site managers, the Supplier Quality Engineering Team, and the global supply base

Experience required

oStrong work experience and a strong track record of achievement
oExperience of working in a Purchasing department
oDegree educated (Engineering, Science, Business Admin) or equivalent combination of education and work experience
oCIPS is desirable
oStrong interpersonal skills
oCan demonstrate exceeding KPIs in their existing company.
